Carlisle West is a ghost town in Grays Harbor County, Washington.

There are no longer paved roads to Carlisle West and the few dirt roads that lead to the former community are mostly overgrown. You can still see clearings and some old road layouts.

History[]

The community of Carlisle began in the early 1900's.  The Copalis Lumber Company operated the mill in Carlisle.

Carlisle was a company town that had its own monetary system by way of tokens in denominations of fifty cents, one dollar and so on. There was a company store that sold groceries and other mercantile items. While employed at the mill, you were required to purchase items from the company store. If you were caught shopping in Aberdeen or Hoquiam, you were immediately fired. The community also had residences a bank and a theater.

In the 1920's, the mill burned down.

The bank vault can still be seen today.

Geography[]

To the east is Carlisle and to the south is Carlisle East. North is Onslow. Copalis Crossing is south.
